  • Obama, You're Somewhat Famous on the Interwebs!

Even though I have no clue about what exactly Obama stands for, he's at least popular on a legitmate social networking site. (Although, I'm a bit intrigued with his decision to run for President)

Somehow, I ran into some myspace drama today.. not sure exactly how or why. Best guess is psychosis. I have enough self-inflicted drama, I don't need teh lame that is myspace. I guess if you don't comment on someone's page, it merits Armageddon. Silly EMO's: welcome to the internet.

At least Obama chose a more mature social networking site. .. although, i'm not sure if a hundred k+ High school/n00b college students really merit all that much press. But at least it's not myspace.

Myspace = hotlinking internet noobs who can't help but post every silly, sparkly, animated .gif they find. ... there are several pages out there voicing their disgust. here's just a taste:

"Maybe we're missing something, but is there actually a point to leaving a Comment on someone's page saying "ooo great site keep it up!"? And no, the fact that you've added infinite smilies or a lame animated gif saying something to the effect of "KEEP ON TRUCKIN" doesn't make it any better. The worst part is that this useless banter can go on for pages. We don't need to hear about that great party last weekend. Or how you have this really unsightly rash. There are other forms of communication for that. Forms of communication such as THE PHONE or INSTANT MESSENGER or ANYTHING WHERE YOUR CONVERSATION IS NOT MADE PUBLIC. Frankly, you disgust us."

    source. (warning: strong language)

  • What Would You Do?

Post-apocalyptic scenario: You are rhe leader of a large tribe of people and families and have sworn to protect them. You live close to a smaller tribe who has a Hostile leader who repeatedly and publicly voices his will to kill you and your people (for one reason or another, take your pick). You've tried to negotiate, you've even enlisted the help of other tribes in the area that the hostile tribe doesn't resent as much, to try and resolve the situation peacefully. .. But to no avail. You start hearing rumors that the hostile tribe is searching and asking around for tools and plans to build bombs and destructive devices with the intent of harming your tribe or at the very least, training others to do so. Some of the things you hear are from credible sources within your tribe and other tribes which you and your tribe have trusted before. The hate and intention of this hostile leader is very clear that they want to destroy your tribe (the tribe and people that you've sworn to protect). The majority of your tribal leaders and people agree; given the multi-tribal information against the hostile leader, there is a very real threat, and action should be taken.

What do you do? Do you take action, try and convince the other tribes of the real threat to your people and solicit their help? What happens when the other tribes don't want or are scared to help? Do you put together a plan and try and hit that hostile tribe first and take their weapons, kill their leader and try and let the people select another leader who won't be as hostile? Do you sit there and wait to see if the information your tribe and the other tribes collected was true by waiting for your people to be killed before you take any action?

.. And what will happen if you make a decision based on the information given and the clear intent, and can't find solid evidence of a large weapon meant to destroy the people of your tribe? Does the clear evidence of intent and plans for harm justify your actions? Or does the lack of completed physical evidence condemn you? Will your people turn on you because the only evidence you found was plans, parts and rhetoric to destroy them? Will the people of your tibe be grateful because you may have stopped some inevitable harm from happening? ... or spit on and stone you because the information you were given and understood was not 100% accurate?

...  Will you be viewed as the villain or the hero?

  • travel.utah.gov ‘Biggest Disappointment’

I found an interesting blog during lunch today (via Digg). It posts the links to all 50 state tourism websites and Utah gained the 'biggest disappointment' remark. Sad, but I agree. Here's the full excerpt:

    Utah

Knowing what a beautiful place Utah is to visit, its web site has got to be the biggest disappointment. Complete missed opportunity. Why is it more than 1024px wide, for instance?

What a seriously horrid website. I'm no web developer, but sheesh. It looks like the kind of site some C- student in an 'Introduction to html' class has done.

    Sad Utah, Sad.

  • Turning VL Grinding into RL Loot!

Ok, I've neglected the Virtual-side of the blog for too long. I actually got a little gaming in over last weekend, it was fun to get back in for some Virtual life butt-kickings. Most of my friends have been engulfed in WoW since it came out. I really enjoyed that game, but when I saw it started to own my life a bit more than i felt comfortable, I quit. It sucked, because aside from it being a very fun game, I was always playing and chatting it up with my friends also. If you're not familiar with the game, it's pretty simple to explain. You have a Virtual character and run around with your friends pwning noobs and getting loot. heheh, anyway, you can play that game for a LONG time. When you are trying to level up your character, it's called 'grinding'. I always relate this VL grinding to RL grinding, only when you work hard and 'level' at life, you get real loot!

Well, you can turn your VL grinding into REAL loot. In fact, a couple friends of mine did that. They sold their WoW accounts. For some good chunks of cash. It's pretty cool, that you can take a virtual life and sell it to make some real moneys.

Wooties to you guys! (and girl)! Go buy yourselves some RL loot!
